Owen's Fish Camp is a really unique Sarasota landmark that reminds me of being in Key West 100%. The food and atmosphere are second to none. The place is always packed, so be prepared to wait without reservations! The freshest Fish menu you can probably find in Sarasota. I don't eat anywhere except this place once I found it! It's got live music in the inner courtyard laced with picnic tables and great live music and outdoor wine and beer bar and oyster station. Killer laid back Key West vibes with moderately priced food. Love this place!

Owen's Fish Camp is the real deal. It's a great place to get some great food and drinks at a decent price. Once you go inside the restaurant you are transported back to another time. It doesn't feel like you are downtown Sarasota. It transports you to the country. You can see some live bands playing some kind of country or folk music. The outdoor area has picnic tables where you take in the live music with friends. The outdoor area also has a bar where you can get some beers or wine along with chargrilled oyster and other snacks. If you are feeling something stronger, go back inside and grab a margarita or whatever you fancy at the bar inside the restaurant. There's limited seating on the porch area in the back, but there's plenty of seating inside the restaurant and in front in the front porch. If you eat in front porch area, be aware there's no air conditioning just some fans, but it feels like a more authentic experience in my opinion. Sitting in the front in the screened in porch gives off some strong camp-y vibes. I'm here for it. We started off our meal with some hooch with my mother and I ordering Key Lime Margaritas and my father ordering the Sandbar Sunday (A wheat beer made by Islamorada Brewing). The Key Lime Margarita came highly recommended by our server so we decided to give it a try. Boy! We were not disappointed as they were very tasty. Speaking of which, our server was Lea and she was very attentive and helpful in catering to our needs. She made some fantastic food recs as well. Everything she recommended was on point. Thank you, Lea! What We Ordered: Sandbar Sunday $6.99 Key Lime Margaritas $10.99 Deviled Eggs with Redneck Caviar $7.99 Murph's Famous Bloody Mary Oyster Shooters $7.99 Grilled Romaine Caesar with Fried Shrimp Skewer $13.99 Wicked Good New England Clam Chowda $8.99 Chicken Fried Lobster Tail with Mustard Mayo $18.99 Shrimp and Grits with Spicy Smoked Sausage $21.99 Scamp $34.99 Camp Basket (Fried Oysters, Shrimp, Grouper, Fries and Slaw) $21.99 Bourbon Pecan Pie with Fresh Whipped Cream $10.99 Mississippi Mud Pie $9.99 All the food was so good. There wasn't one dish that I wouldn't not order again. With that being said, our absolute favorites were: Key Lime Margaritas, Murph's Famous Bloody Mary Oyster Shooters, Chicken Fried Lobster Tail with Mustard Mayo, Wicked Good New England Clam Chowda, Grilled Romaine Caesar with Fried Shrimp Skewer, Shrimp and Grits with Spicy Smoked Sausage, Scamp, Bourbon Pecan Pie with Fresh Whipped Cream and Mississippi Mud Pie. Like I said, all the dishes were thoroughly enjoyed by our party, but the dishes above were the ones that all three of us agreed on liking the most. You may find a party of 5 housewives singing along to Red Fire Night or Out Last Night. You can't beat the ambiance here. This is the spot to go to in Sarasota for great food and drinks. I'm looking forward to coming back to Owen's Fish Camp next year when we visit my folks from LA. P.S. Don't forget to take your picture with the owner outside the restaurant.

We got to Owen's ~45 minutes before opening and we were the second in line. Around 3:55pm, we were seated immediately and our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful in her recommendations. We ordered a half dozen raw oysters, the blackened grouper and the clams and mussels angel hair pasta. Everything was absolutely delicious. The portion size is large and you will leave rolling out of the restaurant. The sweet tea matched perfectly with our meal. Watch out for the old man in the chair statue outside of the restaurant! It looks so realistic.

I previously posted a review saying that a place was the biggest hole-in-the -wall, that I had ever been in. Well, let me tell you this place tops the other one 10-fold. That being said do not hesitate to go here, because I don't think you will ever find a better place. The food was outstanding, and the service was just as good. When we arrived, we were told at least 2 hr. wait and I come close to just saying no thank you, but I am glad I didn't. And the decor just cannot be described. Yea I'd go back, next time we are here.

This place... When we got here we had a whooping 2 hours waiting time, but believe me it's soooo worth it..service was great and ambiance is very casual and welcoming. Food was always 100% from the great garlic bread to the Devil Eggs and ending with the low country boil, taste, presentation all perfect. Drinks were great too. Don't let the waiting time scare you.. this is the place to come in Sarasota

Mussels in leek broth were a wonderful start to a great dinner. We had naked fish platters, one grouper and the other snapper both blackened and delicious. Cole slaw, spicy collard greens and fries as sides. I wish I picked a side other than fries but the promised old bay got me. Don't let its curbside appearance deter you from trying. It might look a little disheveled but that's what I found lovely about it. It's a charming place with great food, good service and fun vibes.

I heard tons of raves about the dining experience at Owen's Fish Camp, so I knew I had to check it on my Sarasota visit. As they say prominently on their website, they don't take reservations. I arrived on Monday at 7pm and the wait was an hour and 15 minutes for a party of one. I headed to the bar for a drink and was told I could sit there if a seat opened. It was full, but I had good luck as a party of two left after 10 minutes. I found the bar wait staff was super friendly and helpful. As I was trying to decide what to order, a couple next to me pointed out their favs. They made my choices much easier. I started with a huge bowl of Mussels, one of my favorites. Next up was the grilled Scamp Grouper that was fantastic. I've never been a big fan of grouper previously, but this was a difference maker. The Apple Pie and Vanilla Ice Cream was a perfect way to end a perfect evening! If you have a larger party, they have an outdoor waiting area next to the restaurant with a fire-pit, its own bar and various games to play.

Delicious food! We heard this was a must have while visiting Siesta Key. Owens did not disappoint! Upon arrival we were told there was a 1.5 hour wait (they don't accept reservations) but we could purchase drinks and appetizers in their back patio area. The patio was very lively as there was a live band, whiskey lemonade, chargrilled oysters, boiled peanuts and much more to enjoy while waiting on a table. Once our table was ready we ordered the following: SEARED SEA SCALLOPS W/BRAISED PORK, OWEN'S SUCCOTASH & GRITS CORNMEAL CRUSTED CATFISH W/SPICY COLLARDS, GRITS & BROWN BUTTER Truly some of the best food I've ever had! Incredible flavors. As the cherry on top, we paired dinner with a glass of their homemade Key lime margarita! We will definitely return to Owen's. The delicious food and friendly staff are unmatched.

Some notes and highlights from our dinner at Owens: Parking is odd/ nonexistent, but we found a street spot a few blocks away. It was kind of a weird walk to and from though - no sidewalks and a decent about of side street traffic. It was packed on a Sunday at 5:30. We only had a 15 minute wait for 2 people, and they have a lovely patio to wait in with a drink stand, limited menu, and live music. The staff was so nice and super attentive for how busy they were. And of course, the food was great. We had the best of both worlds with a fried camp basket (oysters, shrimp, grouper, okra, fries - it was magical) and a grilled veggie plate to balance out all the fried items. It was the perfect amount of food for two people and we loved everything!

The ambiance of this place is the main reason I gave it a 4. The backside is an awesome chill, relaxed vibes with live music while you wait for your table or just get some apps. You can get a variety of oysters, only back there. My whole table got blackened red snapper and scampi. We all agreed the scampi had much more flavor and the blackened seasoning was not as flavorful as normal. Everything is butter heavy. We had a few beers and the service was great. Overall, great one time visit spot.
